Update on our march toward zero waste shops

Final 12 months, after we launched our zero waste retailers initiative, our aim was to divert 75 tons of waste from the landfill by our recycling and composting program in our retailers and kitchen. This Earth Day, we thought we’d share a little bit replace.

With the assistance of our superb compost companions and also you, our prospects, we have now efficiently diverted over 100 tons of waste from the landfill

We owe a HUGE thanks to the compost corporations who’ve partnered with us this 12 months. Our composting companions embody Rust Belt Riders in Chagrin Falls, The Compost Firm in Nashville, WasteNot Compost in Chicago, CompostNow in Atlanta and Charleston, Compost Cab in Washington, D.C., St. Louis Compost in St. Louis, Crown City Compost in Charlotte, Break it Down in Austin, and Republic Companies at our Larchmont store. And we’re happy to announce our new Columbus associate, GoZERO.

In case you’re unfamiliar with our zero waste initiative, at present, 95% of what you purchase in a scoop store will be reused, recycled, or composted. As an alternative of taking tons of of years to interrupt down, it solely takes a matter of months to show our spent bowls, spoons, napkins, and ice cream (all of that are compostable) into nutrient-rich compost. Compost that has been offered or given away to native farmers or residents.

Whereas we take a fast beat at this time to have fun all of the laborious work and coordination and participation that has gone into our efforts—we all know our work is way from completed. For 2020, we’ll proceed to develop these efforts in our new communities, outfit our latest retailers with the newest water-saving know-how, and proceed to seek out methods to scale back packaging behind the road. As a proud licensed B Corp, we’re persevering with to push ahead day by day, aiming to be the absolute best stewards of our surroundings and our group. Pleased Earth Day.
